Chapter Twelve

/ Dawn discovers a whole new world

It is 8 am on Wednesday, Ben is driving to the airport in his Lincoln, with Sarah beside him, and Dawn, Faith, and Amy in the backseat. Their flight leaves at 9:30 am, but they are required to be at the airport an hour before flight time, to check in and to then go through security. Jill has agreed to meet Dawn and the others in the food court at the Westside Mall for 10 am for coffee. Dawn and Jill have not seen each other since Jill was over at the house a few weeks ago. It will be nice to see her again. Good friends are hard to come by, and when we find one, we need to do all we can to keep them, Dawn thinks to herself as they drive to the mall after having hugged and kissed their parents goodbye.

After coffee, they stroll down to a bookstore Dawn knows about located in the mall. And when they get there, she is really glad that they have a few travel books of Brazil, and although there is no single map of the country, there is one inside a set of maps on all countries of South America, which she purchases. Then as she makes her way to the cash register, she notices a section of the store on religious books and Bibles. She suddenly remembers that the Tuesday night Tom shared his faith at the park, overlooking the river and the city, he had encouraged Dawn to read the life story of Jesus, in the four accounts given by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, in the New Testament portion of the Bible. Tom had just assumed that Dawn had a Bible at home, but in fact she did not, having been afraid to divulge that information to Tom at the time. So with Jill by her side, while Amy is with Faith on a bench just outside the store, Dawn buys her first Bible ever. Then as she is about to walk away with the Bible she has chosen for herself, she notices some Bibles for toddlers, and there and then decides to also purchase one for her daughter. What is good for the gander is also good for the goose, she thinks to herself, or is that the other way around? Whatever, she concludes.

Later that evening, as Dawn pulls out the Toddler’s Bible, which she purchased for Faith, she does not realize that she is on a journey, with God very much at work, which will eventually have life-changing consequences, both for her and Faith, and for her whole family. And so it was not a coincidence that she picked up a Bible for herself and Faith earlier that morning. God is at work in her life now, working as unseen behind the scenes, although she is not aware of it yet. When Dawn reads a
